Why The ASD Company

The number one concern that parents of autistic & I/DD individuals have in our society today is

“What will my child do if I were to die or not be able to take care of them?”

Below you will discover other alarming statistics in relation to the autism community, in which motivates us to make a positive impact for those who need it most.

Number of Individuals with I/DD & autism in the US from 2016 (much higher now)

Autism Prevalence is Increasing Exorbiently

In the United States today, 1 in 44 children are born with autism.

In 1997, the autism statistic was approximately 1 in 2500.

Globally, approximately 1% of the entire population is either on the autism spectrum or has some form of neurological disorder or I/DD.

The Transition of Teenagers w/ Autism & I/DD to Success in Adulthood is Broken

Over the next decade, an estimated 707,000 to 1,116,000 teens (70,700 to 111,600 each year) will age to adulthood and out of school based autism services, in which majority of these adults will continue life with no further autism services.

Roughly 85-90% of all adults with autism are either unemployed or underemployed despite their intellectual capabilities, academic achievements, or skill sets.

An Aging Caregiver Population Creates Catastrophic Risk to Existing and Underutilized Adult Autistic Population

Over 90% of adults with autism live at home with their parents or are supported by a caregiver over the age of 60, in which they don’t have another caregiver if their current one dies or cannot take care of them anymore. Most caregivers for adults with autism are family members who do not receive payment for caregiving

Majority of adults with autism whom are not financially independent (themselves or through a trust) and do not have parental or caretaker support typically end up homeless, in jail, institutionalized, or worse.

Unimpressive Results for Individuals w/ Autism Despite Billions Spent on Autism Treatment

Despite roughly $175B-$197B being spent on adult autism services every year, the adult autism community is still incredibly broken when it comes to employment, financial independence, and living a meaningful life.

The cost of caring for Americans with autism had reached $268 billion in 2015 and would rise to $461 billion by 2025 in the absence of more-effective interventions and support across the life span. This figure is expected to rise significantly given that it is mandatory for insurance companies to now accept ABA therapy & other autism related support.

At The ASD Company, we believe in a world where the parents of individuals with Autism & I/DD do not have to stress about what will happen to their children with ASD & I/DD if they cannot provide for themselves.

We also believe in a world where adults on the autism spectrum can develop the necessary skills in order to become financially independent and live meaningful lives.

We realize that the current model for creating a better future for our autistic population is completely broken. Instead of putting a band-aid on the problems at hand, we are developing our entire business model around empowering our autistic & I/DD population and equipping them with the right resources, training, and support to live their lives full of meaningful employment, opportunity, community inclusion, laugher, and love.

With this in mind, we are creating autism housing communities that will empower individuals with autism to live meaningful lives. These communities will contain various service offerings including but not limited to soft skills training, job skill training, career counseling, and much more.
